Thora Birch

Thora Birch (born March 11 1982) is an American producer and actress. Her debut film was Purple People Eater (1988) in which she was awarded the Young Artist Award for "Best Young Artistress Under Nine Years old". Birch was a child actor who appeared in films like All I Want For Christmas (1991) as well as the Patriot Games(1992), Hocus Pocus (1993), Monkey Trouble (94), Now and Then (1995) and Alaska (1996). The actress received a Young Artistic Award in the category of "Best Young Actress Under Nine Years Old." In 1999, Birch played Jane Burnham in American Beauty. This film earned her a BAFTA nomination. After that, she starred in Ghost World (2001) as Enid. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Birch was nominated Emmy Award for her performance in Homeless To Harvard The Liz Murray Story in 2003. Birch was also on Dungeons & Dragons (2000) (2001), The Hole (2004), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006) and Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009). Birch has also appeared as Whisperer Mary as well as Gamma in Season 10 of The Walking Dead (2019-2020). Birch was the eldest child born to Jack Birch (and Carol Connors) in Los Angeles. Birch her family, which originally included the surname Biersch, is German-Jewish and Scandinavian. She also has French-Canadian, French-Canadian, and Italian ancestral roots.  Her name, "Thora," is an abbreviation of Thora, the Norse god thunder and lightning ("Thor") (which could be her name if she had been a child. Kian Bolt Birch, her younger brother, is also her mother. Both were adult film actors, and have been in Deep Throat. Based on their own experiences with the entertainment industry, they were not keen to promote her, but were convinced to show Thora's photograph to agents by a babysitter who saw her mimicking commercials. Her first break came at the age of four, when her babysitter took her to auditions for a Quaker Oats commercial.
