Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994, is an American retired gymnast who was an artistic. She has also been twice Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she received a gold medal at the team competition as well as teammate Gabby Douglas the only Americans to have back-toback team gold medals. Raisman was also awarded silver medals in the individual all-around and floor exercise. Raisman has silver medals from the all-around individual, in addition to the floor exercise. She was also two times a national champion in floor exercises (2012 and 2015) and the 2012 champion of the national championship in balance beam. She's also an all-time champion of the national all-around at national championships (silver, bronze, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015). In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber, the former gymnast from high school and Rick Raisman, on May 25 1994 in Needham. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, & Brett. Raisman, who is Jewish, has stated that she is very proud in her ability to represent the United States of America but as well as the Jewish community throughout the world. Raisman started gymnastics at the age of eighteen months. She credits her love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's squad that took home the gold medal at 1996 Summer Olympics. The athlete trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8, and then moved to Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club, where she was instructed by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year on the internet while training for the Olympics.
